# Random card drawer

A freshly shuffled deck is waiting. Draw a few cards or deal hands; drawn cards stay out until you collect them and reshuffle.

## Drawing and dealing

The deck is shuffled as soon as the page opens. **Draw** takes cards off the top, so a card cannot come up twice until you collect the cards again, and the counter shows how many are left. **Deal** goes round the players one card at a time, the way a dealer does, for up to 10 players.

**Shuffle the rest** mixes the cards still in the deck without returning the drawn ones. **Collect & reshuffle** puts every card back and shuffles a fresh deck; ticking or unticking the jokers does the same.

Each shuffle is a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by crypto.getRandomValues, so every one of the 52! possible orders of the deck, a number with 68 digits, is equally likely. Shuffling real cards by hand takes about seven riffle shuffles to get that close to random.

## Questions

**What are the odds of drawing an ace?**

From a full deck without jokers, 4 in 52, about 7.7%. The chance of one particular card, such as the queen of hearts, is 1 in 52.

**Can the same card come up twice?**

Not until you collect and reshuffle. Drawn cards stay out of the deck, just as they would on a real table.

**What do the jokers do?**

Nothing special: they are two extra cards, one red and one black, for games that use them.
