# Dice roller

Tap a die to add it, or type dice notation such as 2d6+3 or 4d6kh3, then roll. Every die is fair, and your last 50 rolls stay in this browser.

## How to write dice notation

The number before the **d** is how many dice to roll; the number after it is how many sides each die has. Leave out the first number to roll one die, and join dice and fixed numbers with + or −.

| You type | It rolls |
| --- | --- |
| `2d6+3` | two six-sided dice, then adds 3 |
| `d20`, `d%` | one twenty-sided die; a percentile die (1 to 100) |
| `4d6kh3` | four d6 and keeps the highest three |
| `2d20kl1` | two d20 and keeps the lower one |
| `5d10dl2` | five d10 and drops the two lowest (`dh` drops the highest) |

Tapping a die button adds one of that die to the box, so d6 tapped twice makes 2d6. Below the box you see the lowest and highest totals and the exact average before you roll. Dropped dice stay in the tray with a line through them, so every total can be checked.

## Questions

**Is this dice roller fair?**

Yes. Each die uses crypto.getRandomValues, your browser's cryptographic random source, and raw values that would favour some faces are thrown away and drawn again. Over many rolls every face comes up equally often.

**What does 4d6kh3 mean?**

Roll four six-sided dice and keep the highest three. It is a popular way to roll a character's ability scores: totals run from 3 to 18 and average about 12.24, against 10.5 for plain 3d6.

**How do I roll with advantage?**

Type 2d20kh1 to roll two d20 and keep the higher one, or 2d20kl1 for disadvantage. Add a bonus at the end, as in 2d20kh1+5.

**How many dice can I roll at once?**

Up to 100 dice of one kind and 200 in total, with 2 to 1000 sides each, plus whole-number modifiers.
